A 46-year-old miner was on Saturday, April 4 shot dead in the Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown by a serving member of the Guyana Police Force who is stationed at the Brickdam Police Station and attached to the Intelligence Unit.

Dead is 46-year-old Mark Anthony McLean known as “boogy” who resided at lot 681 Toucan Drive.

His reputed wife of six years, Amanda McDonald told the News Room Wednesday that McLean had just left home for a shop in Stevedore where he saw the cop at a table gambling.

It is alleged that McLean and the cop [name given] had old grievances; at the shop, the two got into an argument when it is reported that the cop pulled out his service weapon and shot McLean in the head and chest.

The incident occurred at approximately 17:30hrs. It has been four days since the shooting occurred and the Guyana Police Force has not issued an official statement on the incident.

As a matter of fact, McLean’s reputed wife believes that the Police are covering up the matter because of the cop who is involved.

McDonald says she wants justice for the murder of her husband.

There were several persons who witnessed the shooting and several videos were sent to the News Room which showed McLean’s body lying on the ground of the shop before he was thrown into the back of a Police pick-up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

“We need justice because you don’t kill people like that. My husband is a very nice, loving person.

:Anybody around here will tell you that. The man does look over this whole neighbourhood.”

When contacted by the News Room, Regional Commander Senior Superintendent Phillip Azore did not want to reveal whether the suspect is in Police custody and referred all queries to the Police Public Relations Officer, Senior Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan.

However, when contacted the Public Relations Officer did not have any knowledge or any report of the incident.
