The Guyana Defence Force is mourning the death of 20-year-old PTE Jermien Jones who crashed his motorcycle and died on the spot Thursday night at Line Dam, Queenstown Essequibo Coast.
Police claimed that Jones was speeding on the road when be approached a speed bump, lost control and was flung into the air; he landed some distance away and received severe injuries to his head and body.
The accident occurred at around 22:00hrs.
Jones, who resided at Sand Reef, Essequibo was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Jones was a Private stationed at the Anna Regina Headquarters and attached to the GDF’ 3rd Infantry.
The GDF in a statement noted it has convened a board of inquiry to investigate the accident.
According to the statement, Chief of Staff, Brigadier Patrick West, Officers and Soldiers extend sincere condolences to Jones’ mother, siblings and other relatives.
