The body of a so far unidentified woman was on Saturday morning found in a trench at R and S Street, Belvedere, East Berbice Corentyne.
The woman’s body was found stuffed into a blue barrel with just her right foot protruding.
The discovery was made at around 09:00hrs by residents who told the News Room that they noticed the barrel in the trench for the past two days but did not think it was anything to be worried about. However, a stench began to emanate from the barrel on Saturday and they ventured closer and noticed the foot protruding.
Police were called to the scene and had to cut the barrel open to retrieve the woman’s body.
The body was also found with a bed sheet wrapped around the neck and bore several marks of violence, including to the face.
The police at the scene said the woman appeared to be dead for three days before the body was found.
