A misunderstanding between two families living in the same yard went horribly wrong on Sunday evening, resulting in the death of Albert Raghu called ‘Soldier’ of 218 Hope West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.

Forty-year-old Raghu, who was the father of a 4-year-old girl, was stabbed to the region of the heart and other parts of his body by another man, popularly known as ‘Buxton’.

Raghu lived in the lower flat of the two-storey house with his wife Haimwattie Persaud, while ‘Buxton’ lives in the upper flat with Persaud’s 29-year-old sister.

Persaud told the News Room that her sister was playing loud music while imbibing with friends and after complaints were made to have her lower the volume, the situation escalated at around 23:00hrs.

She said it was while ‘Buxton’ was escorting his wife’s friends out of the yard that the argument over music got heated between the families.

Persaud claimed that ‘Buxton’ then rushed back upstairs and returned with a knife and charged towards Raghu, stabbing him in the process.

Raghu, Persaud recalled, fell to the ground, bleeding profusely from the wounds.

Persaud said they immediately rushed Raghu to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries at 05:00hrs on Monday.

‘Buxton’ and his wife have since been taken into Police custody assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, Police Headquarters in a statement Monday revealed that Raghu armed himself with a cutlass and confronted ‘Buxton’ and his wife; it is also alleged that ‘Buxton’ was armed with two knives.

According to the Police statement, ‘Buxton’s’ wife choked Raghu while ‘Buxton’ stabbed him twice in the left side chest and left shoulder.

‘Buxton’ had to receive medical attention for a wound to the left side of his abdomen.

Police said both suspects are cooperating.
