A 43-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Easter Monday morning following a collision with a canter truck on the Number 64, Village Public Road.

The victim has been identified as Keshwardial Hakie called ‘Bouy,’ a security guard attached to the Skeldon Estate and a rice farmer of Lot 8 Number 63 Village.

Police said the canter- GYY 4014- was speeding north on the western side of the road while Hakie was riding south on the eastern lane.

It is alleged that the motorcyclist turned right to enter a street when he collided with the front of the canter. The impact resulted in Hakie pitching off the motorbike; he landed several feet away. The accident occurred at approximately 09:00hrs.

Hakie received severe injuries to the body and was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A relative told the News Room that Hakie was the father of four children and at the time of the accident, he was on his way to the rice fields. He was the breadwinner.

The family remains in a state of shock.

The driver of the canter truck was identified as a 43-year-old resident of Albert Street Corriverton.

    He remains in Police custody.
