Victim in ECD fatal accident identified, driver hospitalised with head injuries
The victim in the fatal accident on the Good Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Tuesday night has been identified as 32-year-old Rakesh Singh, formerly of Number 46 Village, Corentyne Berbice.
The News Room understands that Singh, who was a taxi driver, relocated to Mon Repos, ECD where he lived for approximately a year.
The driver has been identified as 24-year-old Kelron Benjamin of Triumph Village who is a former Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Guyana Fire Service; he resigned over a year now.
Police Headquarters said he is hospitalised with head injuries.
According to the Police report, the two men were in motorcar PJJ 675 speeding west along the northern lane of the southern carriageway when they collided with a cow that was standing on the said carriageway.
Police said both men were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Singh was pronounced dead on arrival.
The accident occurred at about 22:00hrs.
