Update: Latest COVID-19 death is Linden resident

Guyana’s seventh COVID-19 victim has been identified as a visually impaired Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden, Region 10 resident who was transferred from the Mackenzie Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital last week.

Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence confirmed the death late Saturday night.

The News Room understands that the man was receiving treatment in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Hospital when he died.

Earlier Saturday, the Ministry of Public Health revealed that five persons were in the ICU.

On April 14, Linden recorded its second case after a 29-year-old woman tested positive; she was found to have made contact with the victim who died. She is currently warded at the Diamond Hospital on the East Bank of Demerara.

The last COVID-19 death in Guyana was recorded on April 8 and the victim was veteran engineer, Colonel John Percy Leon Lewis, 77.

He was tested positive for the disease after he died.

The first death was recorded on March 11.

As of April 18, Guyana recorded 63 cases of the diseased, including the number of deaths.

Of the 63 positive COVID-19 cases, four are imported cases and the other 59 persons contracted the disease in Guyana.

The confirmed cases in Region #4 represent 87.7 % with most cases in Georgetown.
