Brazilian gold miner, alleged bandit killed during shootout
A Brazilian gold miner and suspected bandit were killed during an alleged robbery at about 18:30h Friday in the Marudi Mining area, South Rupununi.
The Brazilian national was only identified as ‘Zezong’.
Regional Commander Superintendent Keithon King told the News Room that four armed men reportedly went into the miner’s camp to rob him when there was an exchange of gunfire.
One of the alleged bandits was shot dead by the Brazilian national, who is also a dredge owner.
The Commander said Police ranks are on their way to the mining camp to further investigate the incident. It is unclear if any other persons were in the mining camp at the time of the shooting.
The bodies are still at the scene.
