Guyana’s top female badminton player Priyanna Ramdhani continues to make strides in Canada, where is currently on scholarship and playing the game.

This week, the badminton standout was voted Rookie-of-the-Year by Olds College Broncos after an impressive first year with the college.

Badminton Head Coach at the College, Mary Smith, said Priyanna was the college’s first-ever international badminton player and she delivered the results during the last 12 months.

“Priyanna had third place finishes all season, leading up to provincial championships. At Provincials, she really stepped up her game, earning a silver medal in Women’s Singles and a bronze medal in Women’s Doubles,” Smith reflected.

“Priyanna also received the all-conference award after representing the Broncos at the CCAA Nationals in which she had a fourth place finish. Priyanna is extremely positive and her energy spreads through the team. She’s had fantastic results for a first year player and she truly deserves Rookie-of-the-Year.”

Understandably, Priyanna was ecstatic to cop the award: “I’m very happy with my performance, but I do think I can improve much more.”

While the multiple national sports award winner is currently restricted to indoor work due to COVID-19, she plans on upping her game whenever it is safe for the season to resume.
