The Police have arrested the suspect in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Tameshwarie Sonilal who was stabbed to death between 19:00h and 20:30h at her lot 2 Goed Hope, Canal No.1 Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home Sunday.
Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean told the News Room that the suspect, who goes by the alias ‘Gepper’ was arrested at about 09:00h on Monday on the De Kinderen West Coast Demerara (WCD) public road.
The Commander said based on initial investigation, the motive was rape. It is unclear what occurred in the house leading to the fatal stabbing but neighbours heard the woman screaming.
When they rushed over, they found Sonilal in a pool of blood next to her bed and saw the suspect with a cutlass in his hands but he managed to escape.
The senior cop noted that the suspect who is in his 20’s, is known by persons in the area since he would visit a relative who resides a short distance away, however, Sunday night was the first time he ventured into Sonilal’s yard.
Sonilal’s body is at Ezekiel’s Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
