Five-year-old drowns while on fishing trip in Patentia

Police are investigating the death of a five-year-old boy who drowned during a fishing trip with his 30-year-old mother Shellon Thomas and two of her friends on Monday afternoon in Patentia, West Bank Demerara.

Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police, Simon McBean told the News Room that the child was swimming when his mother noticed he went under the water and did not surface.

He was eventually pulled out of the water and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident occurred at around 15:00h.

The Police will be seeking advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the way forward.

The family is from Skull City, Patentia.
