The driver involved in the accident at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara Monday night died at the Georgetown Public Hospital early Tuesday.

Regional Commander Simon Kurleigh confirmed that 28-year-old Christopher Nicholson died at about 07:00hrs Tuesday while in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

Nicholson along with two girls -ages 15 and 17 – and another young man identified as 23-year-old Rondewl Black were heading to a creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway after curfew hours when he crashed into a utility pole.

The accident occurred at approximately 20:00h – two hours after the curfew across the country took effect in an effort to curb the spread of the deadly new Coronavirus.

Eyewitnesses said the driver was speeding in motorcar HD 576 at the time of the accident.

The four victims were removed from the badly wrecked car by public-spirited persons who said they were all in swimsuits. The friends are all from Sophia, Georgetown.

The 15-year-old was transferred to a private health facility where she is being treated for a fractured leg while the two others were treated and discharged from the hospital.

Police found boxes of food and alcohol inside the car.
