Reg. 4 areas with COVID-19 cases revealed; 94 cases now recorded

Guyana has confirmed one more positive COVID-19 case, bringing the total to 94 cases.

A total of 785 persons have tested for the disease in Guyana.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shamdeo Persaud in the Ministry of Public Health’s daily update on Friday also disclosed the areas on the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara where COVID-19 cases were diagnosed.

On the East Coast, positive cases were reported in Atlantic Gardens, Friendship, Golden Grove, Good Hope, Lusignan, Plaisance, Strathsphey and at Diamond, Grove, Land of Canan, Timehri and Providence on the East Bank.

Central Georgetown continues to be the epicenter with the positive cases identified coming from the following communities; in the north of Georgetown: Kitty, Sophia, Turkeyen, Liliendaal, Cummings Lodge, Alberttown and Cummingsburg.

In the south of Georgetown: Bourda, Lamaha Park, South Ruimveldt and Thirst Park.

Region 4 has the highest number of confirmed cases. Of all positive cases, children account for 5.4%, adults 82 % and the elderly 12.6%, the Chief Medical Officer said.

There are 3 persons are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to Dr. Persaud, 26 persons have passed through the COVID-19 ICU since Guyana diagnosed its first case on March 11. Of that amount, there were three persons who recovered and seven deaths. The others were transferred to the isolation unit.

In the Ministry’s isolation facilities, there are currently 49 persons with three in quarantine.

The deaths remain at 10 and 35 persons have now recovered. This means there are 49 active cases in the country.
