Guyana’s COVID-19 cases jump to 97; 5 in ICU

As of May 9, Guyana recorded three new cases of the new Coronavirus, bringing the total number of known cases to 97.

In its daily update, the Ministry of Public Health revealed Saturday that five persons are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital; 52 persons are in isolation, three are in quarantine and 35 persons have since recovered. The number of deaths remain at 10.

This means there are 52 active cases in the country.

A total of 852 persons were tested of which 755 were negative.

On the East Coast of Demerara, positive cases were reported in Atlantic Gardens, Friendship, Golden Grove, Good Hope, Lusignan, Plaisance, Strathsphey.

On the East Bank of Demerara, there are positive cases att Diamond, Grove, Land of Canan, Timehri and Providence.

Central Georgetown continues to be the epicenter with the positive cases identified coming from the following communities; in the north of Georgetown: Kitty, Sophia, Turkeyen, Liliendaal, Cummings Lodge, Alberttown and Cummingsburg.

In the south of Georgetown: Bourda, Lamaha Park, South Ruimveldt and Thirst Park.
