Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) Captain Gerry Gouveia has commended the staff of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for their professionalism during the recount of votes at the Arthur Chung Conference Center.

“The GECOM staff continue to be very professional…I think GECOM did themselves an injustice to live stream this process because they’re doing such a wonderful job,” Gouveia told the News Room during an interview Friday night.

He added, “When you look at the tabulation rooms and you look at the rooms where the count is happening and the professionalism of the staff, it’s world-class.”

Gouveia also lauded GECOM for its response to the many queries by party agents during the exercise.

“I think GECOM has been very responsive. Every time the stakeholders [have] a suggestion, they’re listening to the stakeholders and adjusting.”

He noted the transparency of the recount process.

“Anybody attempting to interfere in this process, they’ll be in big trouble because it is such a transparent process that it will be spotted right away and the whole international world will know about it right away and people will be dealt with,” Gouveia said.
