The Guyana Elections Commission has completed the recount of 208 ballot boxes at the end of Day Five of the national recount of votes cast on March 2, 2020.

There are 2,339 ballot boxes that must be counted from the ten electoral districts. At the end of Day Five, 51 boxes were counted with 11 for Region One, 10 for Region Two, 17 for Region Three and 13 for Region Four.

Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Yolanda Ward said there were no major issues raised on Sunday during the recount process as GECOM continues to engage the stakeholders.

The Commission is slated to meet with some of the smaller parties on Monday at 11:00h

The Liberty and Justice Party, The New Movement, A New And United Guyana, Change Guyana, the United Republican Party and The Citizenship Initiative – had written to Justice (rt’d) Claudette Singh, the Chair of GECOM, asking for a meeting to address their issues.
