The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) plans to write the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Justice (rt’d) Claudette Singh requesting the removal of the Deputy Chief Elections Officer Roxanne Myers on the basis that she is not acting in the “best interest of GECOM.”

“We plan to write the Chairperson today to lodge a formal complaint about Ms Myers’ conduct. We feel she is not acting in the best interest of GECOM. She is encouraging all these sideshows to continue,” Executive Member of the Opposition party, Anil Nandlall told reporters Sunday outside the Arthur Chung Conference Center.

He explained that Myers “unilaterally” imposed a ban on the use of all cellphones Saturday and instructed that the containers with the ballot boxes are closed at 5pm.

The ban on the use of cellphones was lifted Sunday, Nandlall said.

“You will recall that Ms Myers was even the subject of critical commentary and condemnation by the international observers and we spoke to GECOM about that.

“Mr Lowenfield seems to be behaving himself now Myers have gone awry so we are going to request that [removal] unless she behaves herself.

“We don’t want any favours from anyone. We want the process to be concluded and run smoothly,” Nandlall said.
