Reg. 5 recount starts; 421 boxes counted so far

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Thursday started to recount ballots cast in Region Five and completed seven boxes from this region on its first day.
There are 158 boxes in total to be counted for that region.
The Region Five votes are being counted by two workstations which were previously allocated to Region One at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
The recount for Region One was completed on Thursday with the exception of one box which was soaked and its contents have to be dried.
That box #1095 belongs to a polling station at Kariako in Moruca, Region One where there are 174 registered voters.
At the end of Day Nine, GECOM completed 54 boxes with five for Region One, 11 for Region Two, 17 for Region Three, 14 for Region Four and the seven for Region Five.
This brings the total number of boxes completed overall to 421.
On Friday, GECOM is expected to receive a report from the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) on whether permission was granted to increase its work stations to speed up the recount process.
There are 2,339 ballot boxes in total.
Friday will mark 74 days since Guyanese cast their votes in the March 2020 general and regional elections.
