Friendship man charged for murder

A 27-year-old seaman of Friendship, East Bank Demerara has been charged for the May 09 murder of Marlon Peters, 33, a labourer also of Friendship.

Joshua O’Neil had the charge read to him via Skype by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court. He was not required to plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until June 17, 2020.

The News Room had reported that Peters was stabbed to death by O’Neil during an argument over a stolen cellphone.

The incident occurred at about 21:45hrs; reports are Peters was walking towards his house when the suspect approached him and the two began arguing over the stolen phone. The incident of the phone occurred a while ago in the interior.

Peters then proceeded towards his house when the suspect walked behind him and brutally stabbed him with a knife to the upper abdomen and two to the right upper back. After Peters fell to the ground, the suspect escaped in some nearby bushes. He was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center where he was pronounced dead.
