Pedal cyclist killed after struck down by car on Linden Highway
A 22-year-old pedal cyclist was killed after being struck down by a motorcar on the Linden Soesdyke Highway on Saturday at about 12:30h.
Dead is Tyron Jerome of Kairuni Village, Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Police Headquarters reported that the driver of the car PXX 2588, a 26-year-old Linden resident was proceeding south along the highway and that Jerome was riding at the center of the road.
It is alleged that the pedal cyclist swerved into the path of the car.
The driver reported that he applied brakes and tried to avoid hitting Jerome but instead collided with the rear wheel of the cycle. As a result, Jerome landed on the car’s windscreen before falling onto the road.
He received injuries about the head and body and was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver, who is in Police custody was tested negative for alcohol. An investigation is ongoing.
