In light of the ongoing global pandemic coronavirus, the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) has postponed both the Junior and Senior tournaments for 2020.

According to CASA, “the utmost priority is the health and well-being of all athletes, officials, coaches, and parents, otherwise known as the ‘CASA Family’.”

The CASA Executives have shifted the XXXX Junior Caribbean Squash Individual and Team Championships, initially scheduled for July 19-25 in Hamilton, Bermuda, to 2021, likewise the XXVI Senior championships, which were to be held 15-23 August in Kingston, Jamaica, to 2021.

It was also noted that Doubles would be introduced to the 2021 Junior Championships, as was intended for 2020, and age groups will remain as proposed at the 2019 Annual General Meeting.

CASA President Ramon Chan-A-Sue in a Facebook post on Monday stated, “Even though we are a small event relative to some of the others that have been affected by this pandemic, it is still sad that we will not be able to have our Caribbean Championships this year. Even more disappointed for those Juniors who will lose their last year of eligibility to this virus. I hope they move on to compete at the senior level. I look forward to seeing everyone in 2021!”

Last year, the Junior tournament was held in Trinidad and Tobago, where Guyana, for the third consecutive year, finished second to Barbados, while Guyana hosted senior the championships and regained the overall title.
