The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) will be adding two more recount stations at the Arthur Chung Conference Center on Tuesday, Chairman of the Commission Justice (rt’d) Claudette Singh informed observers Monday.

In the email sent to the observers and seen by the News Room, the Chairman said, “these workstations would become operable from the morning of Tuesday, 19 May 2020.”

Initially, GECOM wanted to increase the 10 workstations by six and was awaiting the approval of the National COVID-19 Task Force which is made up of members of the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition.

A team of health experts had visited the recount site to assess the space and to ensure the additional stations will be in keeping with guidelines of COVID-19.

GECOM is hoping that more recount stations will greatly assist in increasing the pace of the recount process.

At the end of Sunday, May 17, a total of 588 of 2,339 ballot boxes were counted from the March 2, 2020 general and regional elections.
