A Number 49 Village, East Berbice Corentyne man was found dead at the entrance of a door to the bottom flat his home early Thursday.

The man has been identified as 57-year-old Shaheed Ahamad Ishmael. He lived alone.

His body, with a bloody wound to the head, was discovered by his younger brother Fazil Ishmael who went to check on him at around 09:00hrs. There were no signs of forced entry to the home.

The house where Ishmael lived and was found dead

Ishmael, who lives about two villages away, would frequently check up on his brother. On Thursday he went fishing and brought a portion of the catch to his brother and it was then that he found him dead.

The man’s sister, Bibi Nazreen Singh, who only lives a few houses away, said she last saw him on Sunday morning as he was walking on to road to visit the Hospital. The News Room understands Mr Ishmael was a diabetic.

The sister explained that her brother may have been a target for robbery as he collects rent for a land he owns.

Nevertheless, the family is awaiting a post mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Several persons were held for questioning. Investigations are ongoing.
