Gold miner nursing second degree burns after incident on dredge

Fifty-seven-year-old Rodwell Allen, a gold miner of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara received second degree burns to 55% of his body during an incident with an engine.

Police said the incident occurred at about 15:30h Thursday at Partang Backdam, Upper Mazaruni River.

Allen is said to be in a stable condition at the Imbaimadai Heath Centre.

According to reports, Allen along with four others were working on a six inch land dredge when he went to the river bank to cut off the water engine.

Allen said he was holding the throttle on the engine when the radiator hose slipped out and he then felt his skin burning and jumped into the river.

After informing the employer, Allen was rushed to the Imbaimadai Health Centre.
