At the end of Day 21 of the recount, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) completed 84 ballot boxes, bringing the total number of ballots recounted since the process began on May 6 to 1,290.

This represents just 55% of the 2,339 ballot boxes; there are 1,049 boxes still to be counted.

At the end of Tuesday, 19 boxes were recounted in Region Three, 15 in Region Four, 21 in Region Six, 10 in Region Seven, 10 in Region 8 and nine in Region 9.

The count for Regions One, Two and Five are completed while Region Ten – the last Region – is yet to commence.

The 25-day timeline set for the recount comes to an end on Saturday, May 30 and GECOM is yet to announce whether the deadline will be extended and for how long.

The national recount initially commenced with 10 recount stations at the Arthur Chung Conference Center but this was increased by two following the slow pace of some counting agents.

GECOM wants to add two more recount stations but is still awaiting the approval of the National COVID-19 Task Force more than a week later.
