Miner beaten to death by drinking buddy

Police are on the hunt for man who beat his friend to death after a drinking spree. One person has so far been arrested in the murder.

Dead is David James, a gold miner of Port Kaituma in Region One.

The Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Linden Lord, told the News Room that the incident occurred Tuesday at about 18:00hrs at the Aranguy Backdam, Cuyuni River.

The employer of the men stated that the James and the main suspect were drinking during the day when they started fighting. The employer said he broke up the fight up and the suspect subsequently left.

The suspect then returned later with the other person and started to beat James about the body and head.

James’ motionless body was discovered Wednesday in a hammock in his camp about 06:00hrs by the employer.

The Commander said a five man team is currently looking for the suspect. The other person was arrested and is in custody at the Aranka Police Station.
