A 23-year-old miner was killed on Friday last after he assisted a woman who reportedly stabbed another woman during a fight over a man.

Dead is John Alleyne of Yarakita Village in Region One.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 20:30hrs at Prince Ville access road in Mahdia, Region Eight.

The News Room understands that 19-year-old Suzette Barjoan of Moruca, Region One was involved in a fight with 36-year-old Norma De La Cruz, a cook of Prince Ville, over a man they both reportedly shared a relationship with.

De La Cruz was stabbed to the right side neck. The man who they were fighting over, Troy Daniels, took De LA Cruz home.

Alleyne then assisted in taking Barjoan home and while passing the home of De La Cruz, they were approached by a relative of Daniels, who was armed with a piece of wood. He reportedly asked Barjoan why she attacked De La Cruz and proceeded to hit her to the shoulder.

The relative then dealt Alleyne one lash to the back. After the suspect’s father intervened and took away the wood, Alleyne ran a short distance and fell.

He was picked up by the Police the following morning and taken to the Mahdia Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at the Lykens funeral home.

Police investigations are ongoing.
