Murdered Atlantic Gardens woman suffered injuries to the head – Police Commander
Police are continuing their investigations into the brutal murder of 61-year-old Sattie Monika Beekharry whose body was found in a pool of blood in her Lot 152 – 154 Begonia Drive, Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara home Monday afternoon.
The mother of three was found with wounds to the head and other parts of her body.
Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor told the News Room the suspect, who is said to be a close friend of the woman, was arrested and taken into custody.
The woman’s nephew, Bonny Singh told reporters at the scene that he received a call from another relative that his aunt had been murdered.
The woman’s body was found motionless in the kitchen located in the lower flat of the house.
According to the nephew, he had no contact with his aunt for about three years and could not speak about the nature of the relationship between her and the suspect.
Neighbours told the News Room that they heard the woman screaming for “murder” and so they contacted the Police who responded promptly.
When the Police arrived on the scene, the suspect was seen peeping from a window; ranks threw tear gas inside the house to get him to surrender but it was futile and so they broke down the door to gain access.
The suspect was then arrested.
The News Room understands that the woman resided in Canada and travelled to Guyana a few weeks before the March 02 general and regional elections; she also operated a business in the Stabroek Market in Georgetown.
Her children are also overseas.
She lived alone and the suspect would normally visit the Atlantic Gardens house.
