The Police on Monday surrounded a house and fired tear gas in their attempts to arrest a man who is believed to have murdered a woman at her home at Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Monica Singh Beekharery known as ‘Sattie’, 61, a mother of three. The News Room understands that the woman resided in Canada and travelled to Guyana a few weeks before the March 02 general and regional elections.
Her children are also overseas. She lived alone and the suspect would normally visit the Atlantic Gardens house.
Neighbours told the News Room that they heard the woman screaming for “murder” and so they contacted the Police who responded promptly.
The Police managed to break down the door and found the woman lying motionless in a pool of blood with several stab wounds to the body.
The suspect has been arrested.
