With 12 workstations dedicated solely to the recount of Region 4 – Guyana’s largest voting district – the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Friday only completed the recount of 76 ballot boxes.

A total of 167 boxes remain to be counted in the entire recount process which is undergoing at the Arthur Chung Conference Center.

The electoral body has recounted a total of 2,172 ballot boxes since the recount started on May 06.

A total of 2,153 Statements of Recount (SOR) were tabulated for thebGeneral Election while 2,133 were tabulated for the Regional Election.

According to figures published by The Citizenship Initiative (TCI) based on the tabulation done thus far, the Opposition People’s Progressive Party is leading with 210,310 votes while the incumbent APNU+AFC gained 193, 939 votes.

At the end of Friday, the PPP was leading by 16,371 votes.
