50-Y-0 man killed after tractor overturns in backdam
The lifeless body of a 50-year-old man was pulled from under the tractor he was operating in the Number 72 Village, backdam on Saturday.
Dead is Ghaneshwar Jahaman known as ‘Dougla’ of Number 73 Village, East Berbice Corentyne.
The News Room understands that Jahaman was in the process of preparing the land for rice cultivation when the tractor toppled and pinned him underneath.
Other workers who were nearby rushed to his rescue but was unable to help him since only a part of his foot was visible.
His relatives were immediately informed and contacted the Police.
As a result of the current state of the access dam to enter the backdam, Jahaman’s body was pulled from the scene several hours later when the Police arrived.
“He was pinned at the bottom, the tractor four-wheel was in the air. You could ah barely see piece of his foot alone. When they pull him out he was covered in mud and the steering impression was on his body. He has burn marks also from hot oil from the tractor,” one of his cousins, Rishie Soookraj told the News Room.
Jahaman, a father of one was described as well known, friendly and helpful to family and friends.
