Guyana did not record any new COVID-19 cases from the 11 additional tests conducted as of June 17 but three more persons have recovered from the deadly disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 102.

The total number of confirmed cases remains at 171 and the number of COVID-19 deaths 12. Guyana recorded 12 new cases on Tuesday.

The total number of tests done is 2,006 and of that number, 1,835 are negative.

There are 57 active cases in institutional isolation, and 24 cases in quarantine.

“I wish to remind all our students, teachers, security guards, auxiliary staff, parents and guardians not to downplay the adherence to these guidelines. Covid-19 is serious business and just a mere glimpse of the trend in our Region and beyond provides you with the dismal picture,” Chief Medical Officer Dr Shamdeo Persaud pleaded in Wednesday’s update.

He urged the mining community to be responsible and to recognize that if the laissez-faire pattern of behavior continues in this vein, then the country is negating the best efforts of health workers who have been working steadfastly.
