Police are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl Nandra Alban who died after the canoe she was in capsized in the Kukui River, Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region on Tuesday afternoon.
The News Room understands that the child’s father, a 36-year-old farmer of Phillipai Village Upper Mazaruni was with his wife and five others inside the canoe heading to their farm when the accident occurred at approximately 16:30h.
Reports indicate that the parents tried to save the toddler but were unsuccessful; the others in the canoe subsequently swam across the river.
Residents from the village are still searching for the child’s body.
