Six new persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Guyana to 215. Of that number, there are now 95 active cases.

The Ministry of Public Health on Thursday noted that 108 persons have recovered so far while 16 persons are in institutional quarantine and one patient in the COVID-19 ICU.

The National Public Health Reference Laboratory has so far tested 2,355 persons.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Shamdeo Persaud in delivering Thursday’s COVID-19 update noted that child-health clinics and antenatal clinics continue to function. As such, he urged that expectant mothers visit their clinics as requested by doctors.

Additionally, he urged parents of children that are due for their HPV vaccines, 9-16 years, to seek this service at the nearest health centre. HPV vaccines are given to the children to guard against cervical cancer.
