West Indies efforts to get some much-needed time in the middle ahead of the first Test against England were thwarted on Monday when rain washed out the entire day’s play at Emirates Old Trafford.

The four-day, intra-squad contest is the West Indies last bit of competitive, on-field action before the first Test, starting July 8 at the Ageas Bowl.

Players were kept indoors all day, while the covers remained on the square for the entire duration. West Indies would hope for improved conditions tomorrow as they fine-tune preparations for the hectic three-match series, crammed in 21 days.

Jason Holder’s men are aiming to maintain their hold on the Wisden Trophy, which they won in the last series in the Caribbean in early 2019.
