Porter dies after falling off tractor
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Leonard Henry of Moruca, Region One who fell off a tractor and was ran over by the same tractor following a drinking spree with his friends on Tuesday at the Batocari Trail, Mazaruni District in Region Seven.
Two porters, who were also on the tractor, told Police that after Henry fell, he got up and went back on the tractor but then they found him dead in his camp the next morning.
But residents in the area told the News Room that Henry, who was also a porter, was stuck between the left wheel of the tractor which drove over him and so his friends picked him up and took him back to the camp where they left him nursing injuries.
The tractor, with license plates 21376, was being driven by a 44-year-old man of Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
Henry and the other porters were sitting on the left and right sides rear of the tractor when the incident occurred at about 21:30h.
A report was made to the Sherima Police Station and Henry’s body was subsequently transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the driver is in custody assisting with the investigation.
