Police are investigating the death of 23-year-old Nakosie Vankenie known as ‘scarie’ who was stabbed three times during an argument over a bottle of Guinness on Saturday night at Patrick Dam Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.

The News Room understands that Vankeric of High Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 01:30h Sunday morning.

The 29-year-old suspect, who is a security guard of Pope St., New Amsterdam, was subsequently arrested by the Police after fleeing the scene.

His aunt, Angela Vankenie, told the News Room that Nakosie was with friends at a shop when he purchased the stout and placed it down but when he turned around, someone had picked it up.

According to the aunt, Nakosie asked who took his beverage when the suspect later admitted.

“He told the guy [they] aren’t friends like that…why [he] take [his] stuff,” the aunt said.

This led to an argument and then a scuffle, during which Nakosie was stabbed to his neck, stomach and chest; the suspect escaped.

The aunt said the weapon resembled a pair of scissors. The incident occurred at around 22:00h.

Nakosie was described by his aunt as a friendly and helpful person. He had completed studies at the Government Technical Institute but could not find a job after, the family said.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story initially stated that Police are on the hunt for the suspect. The suspect has since been arrested and the story has been amended.
