Sections of Georgetown, East Coast and Berbice still without power

High winds in the wee hours of Wednesday has resulted in a countrywide blackout.

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) in a statement said power has been restored to most areas with the exception of sections in Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and Berbice.

Due to the high winds, power lines were damaged as a result of tress that fell and other infrastructural damages have been reported in these areas.

Teams have been dispatched to conduct remedial work. Every effort is being made to restore power to affected areas in the shortest possible time, GPL stated.
