A 47-year-old single mother of three children is seeking the public’s help in rebuilding her house which was damaged by heavy winds Wednesday morning at Section ‘B’ Number 67 Village, East Berbice Corentyne.

Roopranie Latchminarine known as ‘Sharda’ told the News Room that she and her 16-year-old son were lying in bed when they heard a “cracking sound” but before they could get up to check, the entire house started to shake and quickly collapsed with them inside.

This occurred at around 05:00h. The mother and son suffered minor injuries.

Latchmanarine is a single parent who is due for surgery soon for a medical condition. Her medical condition prevents her from working and she is solely dependent on public assistance to make ends meet.

Her 16-year-old son is set to write the CSEC examination on July 17. Her other son was not at home at the time while her 25-year-old daughter resides elsewhere.

Latchmanarine’s husband died some 13 years ago while a fourth child of hers committed suicide two years ago.

The single mother, amid tears, pleaded for any form of assistance as she is worried that this will affect her son’s preparations for CSEC.

“We don’t have anywhere to go, nothing to eat… everything break up. We really need help.”

Persons desirous of assisting the family can call them on telephone number 602-4571.
