No decision yet on resumption of football in Guyana- Forde

President of the Guyana Football Federation, Wayne Forde, said no decision has yet been made on a date for the resumption of football in the country.

It was reported in a section of the press on Thursday that “Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) 2020/2021 Season is slated to officially commence on August 1st, 2020. This was revealed on the official FIFA Worldwide Registration Periods Calendar.”

However, in an invited comment to the News Room on Thursday, Forde said that information is “misleading.”

Forde said: “The FIFA website carries the established schedule they have on record, for each MA’s top league. The GFF has not and cannot confirm any date for the resumption of Football without the requisite clearance and guidance from the Ministry of Public Health.”

Football was among the first set of disciplines locally to take step to guard against the spread of the coronavirus, by suspending its calendar of activities and limiting activity at the Secretariat.
