Guyana on July 26 recorded ten new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of known cases to 370 in less than 24 hours.

The Ministry of Public Health has refused to reveal where the new cases were recorded but noted that there are now 169 active cases in institutional isolation including four persons in the COVID-19 ICU at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The number of deaths remains at 20 and 181 persons have recovered so far.

There are 33 persons in institutional quarantine.

Thus far a total number of 4,273 persons have been tested for the deadly disease of which 3,903 are negative.

Despite a curfew in place complemented by other measures since March Guyana continues to see a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The Ministry of Public Health has only held one press conference since Guyana became infected in March and the caretaker Health Minister Volda Lawrence has not addressed the media in months.

Statistics are not revealed to the media on a daily basis as to how many active cases are in each of the ten administrative regions and health authorities have refused to divulge information when contacted by reporters.
