During a routine operation in Region Nine Saturday, ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) arrested a Lethem resident found attempting to transport 251 smuggled cases of beers suspected to have emanated from Brazil.

In custody is Ryan Khan. A statement from CANU noted that the interdiction was made while the suspect was attempting to load the beers onto the tray of his vehicle from its purportedly concealed location under a clump of bushes at an area near the Guyana/Brazil Border.

The cases of beer and the suspect have all been handed over to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) for investigation.

“CANU will continue to conduct surveillance operations and provide support for its fellow inter-agencies to minimise and eradicate illicit narcotic and related activities Nationwide,” CANU said.
