From August 1, churches, mosques, mandirs and other places of worship are permitted to reopen in accordance with the updated COVID-19 guidelines.
However, the curfew from 8pm to 6am remains in place until August 15.
The updated order, which signals phase four of the reopening of the economy, states that “all places of religious worship may be open for religious services and gatherings including the conduct of funerals and weddings.”
Gatherings are restricted to 25% the capacity of the building.
Religious leaders shall ensure that there is six feet distance between attendees who are not from the same household, proper sanitization is done after each service and members wear masks covering their noses and mouths.
The order also includes strict protocols for separation of shoes where it is not permitted inside the buildings.
Except for religious functions, all other gatherings should not exceed ten persons.
Special measures remain in effect for areas in Regions One, Seven and Nine which have emerged to be COVID-19 hotspots.
Additionally, the Cheddi Jagan and Eugene F. Correia International Airports remain close to all international flights except for outgoing flights, cargo flights, medical evacuation, technical stops for fuel only and special authorized flights.
