A bandit identified as 21-year-old Dominic Downer of Walker Terrace, La Penitence, Georgetown was on Sunday night killed during “an armed confrontation with a public-spirited citizen who is a licensed firearm holder,” Police Headquarters said in a statement.
The incident occurred at about 20:30h at Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
One of the victims reached out for help on Facebook and said four bandits were in the house.
As a result, several persons rushed to the location and attempted to get in contact with Police officers.
The woman later disclosed that the men gained entry by climbing onto the verandah and then making their way into the house.
Police said Downer and an accomplice robbed the family of cash, jewellery and cellular phones.
A cell phone belonging to one of the victims was found in Downer’s possession while an unlicensed pistol with three live ammunition were retrieved next to his body.
Stringent efforts are being made to apprehend the other suspect who managed to flee the scene, Police said.
