Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum will be appointed as the new Crime Chief, moving from his current post as Police Commander of the Region One branch of the Guyana Police Force.

Blanhum is replacing Senior Superintendent Michael Kingston.

Blanhum previously served as Crime Chief from 2015 but was demoted to Deputy Commander of ‘A’ Division in 2017 following a Commission of Inquiry into an alleged plot to assassinate former President David Granger.

During his stint as Crime Chief, Blanhum was heavily praised for reopening several high-profile cases such as the execution of fashion designer, Trevor Rose; the 1993 murder case of Monica Reece and the robbery/murder of Sheema Mangar.

His Commander post in Region One will be taken up by Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan. Ramlakhan served as the Force’s Public Relations Officer for several years.

The News Room understands that the changes will take effect in the new week.
