Guyanese Allen suffers first defeat as Morrell Jr. takes WBA title
Guyanese Lennox Allen lost by Unanimous Decision to Cuban Osvary David Morrell Jr. in their World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Super Middleweight title at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA, on Saturday evening.
Morrell Jr., 22, was dominant throughout the contest, outboxing the 35-year-old Allen, who suffered a first defeat in his 24th fight.
Judges Dr. Lou Moret (120-108), Fernando Villareal (119-109) and Steve Morrow (118-110) all scored the bout heavily in favour of Morrell Jr. in the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FOX.
For Morrell Jr., it was his third straight win of a promising career, and the first time he went 12 rounds after two knockout victories to start his professional journey.
The win has put Morrell in a position to challenge for the real title, seemingly at any point he so chooses in his promising future.
The bout served in supporting capacity to a scheduled 12-round welterweight bout between Minneapolis’ Jamal James (26-1, 12KOs) and Puerto Rico’s Thomas Dulorme (25-3-1, 16KOs).
