A 20-year-old minibus conductor of Tuschen North, East Bank Essequibo on Friday appeared before Magistrate Zameela Ali Seepaul charged with the offence of rape.
Vikash Persaud is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl on February 21, 2020, at a hotel in Bushy Park, Parika East Bank Essequibo. He was granted $350,000 bail and the matter is adjourned to September 4, 2020.
The court heard that Persaud and the child met after school; the child had $100,000 in her possession which her mother gave to her to take home for safekeeping.
It is further alleged that Persaud used the money to pay for the hotel and then took some for himself.
The mother found out and a report was made to the Leonora Police Station and the Childcare and Protection Agency.
