A 52-year-old man of Good Faith Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is calling for justice after he was chopped to his nose and hand and had his canter damaged by a former business partner.

Tomby Naidu told the News Room that the incident occurred on July 29 at Dundee, Mahaicony.

He explained that the main suspect identified as ‘Roy’ is a former business partner of Huntley, Mahaicony who previously sold coconuts to him.

Naidu alleged that on the evening of July 29, he was entering his canter truck on the Dundee public road when ‘Roy’ approached him from a rum shop and asked for $1,000.

The man said he refused telling ‘Roy’ “you don’t sell me coconut anymore so I can’t give my money.”

This enraged the suspect who then pulled out a knife and began chopping at the windscreen and driver’s side window.

Naidu alleged that another accomplice joined the suspect and attacked him as well.

“I went inside and press down the safety and both of them start chopping the window and windscreen which eventually broke.”

Naidu was chopped to his nose which received 13 stitches and his fingers as he attempted to guard his face.

The canter truck was damaged and blood spilled onto the steering wheel during the ordeal

A video of the incident shows the suspects standing at the left and right sides of the canter truck barring Naidu from escaping their wrath.

Naidu subsequently escaped.

One of the men was charged and remanded while the main suspect, ‘Roy’ was arrested and later released.

Efforts to contact the Regional Commander about the release of the suspect proved futile.

The matter is set for hearing at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s court on Monday.
