Newly appointed Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall has promised exponential growth for the country’s capital city, Georgetown.

An Inter-Ministerial Committee will be established sometime this week to manage an elevation of Georgetown project. This Committee will work closely with the Mayor and Councilors of Georgetown to improve the city’s economical and infrastructural status. The Committee will be directed by cabinet and led by the Ministry.

“Very soon the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development will establish an Inter-Ministerial Committee that will work closely with the residents of Georgetown and of course the Councilors too, to make sure that that elevation happens very soon and it happens in the best interest of national development,” Dharamlall said.

The Minister and Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Anand Persaud, met with the Mayor of Georgetown, Ubraj Narine on Monday to discuss the way forward.

In the reverse where the City Council operates with the government, the government will now be working with the Council.

“We paid a courtesy call to City Hall. We discussed generally a renewed relationship and how we would like to work closely with the residents of Georgetown.”

“We would like to have Georgetown elevated to the real capital city that it is meant to be.

“There is a lot of work to be done. There are tremendous challenges facing the Georgetown Mayor and City Councilors and more importantly there are tremendous challenges facing the citizens of Georgetown including residents and businesses.”

Excellent! Nigel looks like a man on a mission with the plan for the mission. Keep the press and the people informed of all developmental plans. Be transparent and humble. Good luck Nigel, you and Anand can do it.
