The finance and natural resources sectors will fall under the oversight of the President’s office, it was announced on Monday.
No Finance Minister has been named by President Irfaan Ali.
Though there is a Minister of Natural Resources, the News Room understands that because of the size and importance of the sector, the President’s office will have oversight.
The regulations for the petroleum sector, for example, falls under the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, which is a department of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
This position is expected to change once key outstanding legislation is passed in the National Assembly.
